Drywall
We recommend using 5/8″ regular drywall which performs well in both heating and cooling. If the panels need to be installed within a wall, 1/2″ drywall should be used unless fireproofing is required, in which case, 5/8″ drywall should be used. We do not recommend using 1/2″ drywall for a ceiling installation as it may result in drywall sagging or bowing between the studs due to its weight and lack of support.
Wood
Wood may be used, but it slightly reduces cooling output. To compensate for this, more radiant panels may need to be incorporated to meet cooling loads. Using wood does not affect heating since the supply water temperature can be increased to meet heating loads. Cooling is affected because the supply water temperature is limited by the environment’s dew point. Denser woods, such as Oak, are preferred over less dense options like Cedar.
Magnesium Board
While not necessary to meet heating and cooling loads, Magnesium board provides maximum output. However, it does come with higher costs.
