How does mSense compare to a traditional thermostat?

Is this the end of the traditional thermostat?

At Messana, we’re redefining occupant comfort with our cutting-edge technology. Our “set it and forget it” philosophy means you no longer have to constantly utilize a thermostat to adjust your setpoint. Instead, we recommend using our mSense room comfort sensors along with Messana Controls to manage your hydronic system.

Unlike traditional AC and heating systems that only condition the air and blow it into your space, our radiant system truly conditions the space, bringing the entire environment to the desired temperature through a radiant surface.

How are mSense room comfort sensors different than a traditional thermostat?

Our mSense room comfort sensors, which don’t require a user interface, monitor operative temperature, which measures radiant energy and provides a reading much closer to what our skin receptors actually feel. This allows our system to gauge your true comfort level, as opposed to just the air temperature, which often varies from zone to zone.

Why do I not need a user interface?

With a radiant system, the goal is to find an ideal indoor climate and have Messana Controls manage the system to maintain a perfect environment. This means that traditional wall thermostats, and the constant setpoint adjustments, are no longer necessary. Instead, you may rely on our technology to provide even comfort throughout your home or building while preserving the aesthetic of your environment with our inconspicuous mSense room comfort sensors.

So, how do I adjust my setpoint(s)?

If the occupant feels they need to make a temporary adjustment to their system, they may use the override functionality to temporarily change their system’s setpoint via the Messana App. Occupants can even make quick adjustments using voice control with Siri.

What if I still want a user interface?

Of course, we understand that there may be situations where having a wall-mounted sensor/user interface, such as our mStat, is helpful. For example, guest rooms may benefit from a user interface to give occupants who may not have the Messana App the ability to manage the environment in that specific room. Additionally, clients who are less tech-savvy and prefer a more traditional approach may desire a wall-mounted sensor/controller like the mStat to manage their system. However, it is certainly not necessary. It is also worth noting that the mStat, like any other thermostat on the market, monitors air temperature, not operative temperature, so there will be a slight difference in comfort since mSense room comfort sensors can better evaluate the environment in terms of true, human-felt, comfort.

No matter which option you choose, our technology is designed to provide you with the most comfortable environment possible. And with the ability to make adjustments via our app (with or without an Internet connection), you always have control over your system. So why settle for a visually disruptive touch-screen thermostat when you can always be comfortable using mSense room comfort sensors and mControls?
