We recently got to check out this very unique project in Fairfax, CA!
This radiant floor will be used to provide BOTH radiant cooling and heating using Messana Room Comfort Sensors, mControls, and Air Treatment Units!
Viega Climate Panels and 5/16” Barrier PEX Tubing were used to construct this radiant floor. The panels are constructed with wood from responsibly managed forests (Forest Stewardship Council), are CARB 2 compliant for formaldehyde off-gassing, and are certified to PS1-09 for structural rating!
When it comes to radiant floor cooling, the main issue is the large thermal mass of the floor, which makes it hard to change its temperature quickly to avoid producing condensation. But by using Messana Room Comfort Sensors and mControls, we can monitor the dew point throughout the home and adjust the radiant floor temperature as needed to avoid producing condensation!
Additionally, to increase the radiant floor cooling capacity, we can incorporate Messana Air Treatment Units which provide neutral temperature mechanical ventilation and dehumidification. This allows us to lower the dew point within the home and use colder water within the floor to provide greater cooling!
As an award-winning builder of precision-engineered custom homes and commercial structures, Method Homes is at the forefront of modern, sustainable building practices.
This system utilizes three geothermal heat pumps to generate heated and chilled water for use within a radiant floor system for radiant heating and cooling. Additionally, Messana Controls was used to integrate with Mitsubishi VRF units to provide cooling!
