Hydronica Inc. made quick work of this Ray Magic® NK radiant ceiling install in Aptos, CA!
Seeing these panels go in always sparks curiosity, so let’s tackle the Top 5 FAQs about a Ray Magic® NK radiant ceiling:
- Doesn’t heat rise?
Not exactly—hot air rises, but heat only moves from hot objects to cooler ones, regardless of direction. Just like the sun warms you from above, our ceiling panels radiate warmth directly to you. - How do you cool without condensation?
mSense room comfort sensors monitor each zone’s dew point in real-time, allowing Messana Controls to adjust the radiant surface temperature so it never drops low enough to cause condensation. Additionally, Messana Controls may activate forms of dehumidification to increase system cooling capacity. - What about ceiling fixtures, like lights, speakers, and sprinklers?
Typically, we work around lighting, speakers, and sprinkler systems as much as possible during the panel layout design phase. But when this isn’t possible, installers may place ceiling fixtures within our panels, in between the hydronic piping. Cut-outs can range in size from 2.5″ to a maximum of 4″, depending on the position of the cut-out on the panel. - Why not just use a radiant floor?
Due to their low thermal mass, radiant ceilings respond faster, provide higher output in both heating and cooling, and create an unobstructed radiant surface. Furthermore, a radiant ceiling installation is typically faster and more straightforward than a radiant floor installation. - Can I retrofit?
Absolutely. Ray Magic® panels are perfect for both new builds and retrofits! Choosing the ceiling over a radiant floor retrofit avoids floor adjustments that affect door heights, steps, and transitions. Additionally, it allows for more efficient integration of radiant cooling without compromising heating comfort.
