Control Magic is the core of the hardware platform of any Messana radiant cooling and heating system. It constantly monitors every room of the building through accurate proprietary sensors (SenseMagic) and, based on the real thermal loads, dynamically modulates the supply water temperature (typically through a 2-10V electronic mixing valve).

Radiant Ceiling
Based on a proprietary technology that optimizes the radiant system performance in terms of energy efficiency and comfort, while and always maintaining an accurate and uniform indoor temperature. It also controls 4-pipe system for simultaneous radiant cooling and heating.

Radiant Floor
Controls radiant fluid to maintain a comfortable floor and room temperature.

Fan Coils
Gentle control of air handlers as convective integration of the radiant system. Support for major HVAC air handlers (Daikin, Hitachi, LG, Mitsubishi).

Heat Pump
Single-stage or two-stage controls of heat pumps. Maintains optimum buffer tank temperature (primary loop) and controls supply temperature (secondary loop) by modulating 3-way mixing valve as function of supply and return temperatures.

Domestic Hot Water
Optimizes multi-stage heating supplies (boiler, solar, heat pump) as well as recirculating pumps through programmed scheduling, temperature and/or room-based presence sensors to provide instantaneous hot water supply only when needed.
Indoor Air Quality
Based on true CO2 or VOC readings optimizes heat recovery ventilation (HRVs, ERVs) to save energy and improve quality of life.

Air Treatment
Controls humidifiers, dehumidifiers and air treatment units (ATUs) to maintain optimal ThermalWellbeing™.

BLACK series
mBox 5 and 10, one-box solutions for small to medium-sized hydronic HVAC systems.
Zones: Up to 5 zones (mBox5) or 10 zones (mBox10). Each zone requires an mSense comfort sensor. Each zone can feature radiant and/or fan coils and one contact window.
Heating and cooling terminals: Radiant ceilings, radiant floors, hydronic fan coils (analog or digital control). Each terminal can be set for both heating and/or cooling.
Air systems: ATUs for HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilation), free cooling, and dehumidification. Controlled via Modbus.
Hydronic systems: Up to three (mBox10) or two (mBox5) independent hydronic systems. Two (mBox10) or one (mBox5) are dedicated to the main heating/ cooling terminals with a buffer tank and 3-way valve for temperature control. One additional hydronic system is dedicated to ATUs and/or fan coils as second stage.
DHW: With dedicated tank and recirculation pump (only mBox10).

Going beyond air temperature.
In the past, typical room thermostats only provided air temperature as the sole index of thermal conditions in your home. An HVAC control system based uniquely on air temperature does not account for other key comfort elements, such as mean radiant temperature, air temperature and velocity, humidity and air quality.
This is why at Messana, we have invented mSense, a new generation of room sensors to enhance comfort and energy efficiency.
mSense measures the three fundamental indoor environmental parameters that influence the wellbeing and thermal conditions of occupants: operative temperature, relative humidity (dew-point), and air quality.
Operative Temperature
mSense measures the operative temperature by combining the influence of air and mean radiant temperature in a similar way as the skin’s thermal receptors of human body do. Integrating in a control system a sensor that is also influenced by the thermal radiation provides more accurate results than air temperature alone.
Relative Humidity (dew-point)
Measuring and controlling humidity levels in buildings is very important for both comfort and health. It is also crucial in properly controlling radiant cooling systems. mSense is equipped with a stable and accurate sensor to measure humidity and dry bulb temperature. Based on these measurements it precisely evaluated the dew-point temperature.
Air Quality
As an offered option, mSense can be equipped with a sophisticated gas sensor that goes beyond the carbon dioxide (CO2 ) by analyzing substances that directly affect your health and help improve the indoor air quality and save energy. The Indoor Air Quality IAQ sensor monitors the equivalent CO2 and the Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs).
